N9TAX welcomes you to the N9TAX RetroLab IRC server: a place to chat about vintage computers and retro tech, from any machine that can speak plain IRC.

Connect

Server: irc.n9taxretrolab.net
Port: 6667
SSL / TLS: off (plain IRC, so old machines can join too)
You start in: #lobby

Many modern clients turn SSL on by default, or pick port 6697. If you can't connect, check that SSL is off and the port is 6667.

Getting around

/list - show all the rooms
/join #room - join a room, or start a new one
/nick NewName - change your name
/quit - leave

Keep your name

Register your nickname so nobody else can use it:

/msg NickServ REGISTER yourpassword

Then each time you connect:

/msg NickServ IDENTIFY yourpassword

Started your own room? Make it yours with /msg ChanServ REGISTER #room while you're its operator. Names and rooms nobody uses for three weeks are released.

Mork: multiplayer Zork

Mork is Zork I, II and III joined into one Great Underground Empire that you explore together with everyone else who is playing. Any telnet client works, from a modern terminal to a vintage machine.

Server: n9taxretrolab.net
Port: 4000 (telnet)

telnet n9taxretrolab.net 4000

The first time, make your adventurer. Use one word of 3 to 30 letters for the name (it is what other players see), and a password of at least 8 characters that isn't all digits or a common one like "password1":

create YourName yourpassword

Every time after that:

connect YourName yourpassword

Then type help. You start West of House, and you come back where you left off, with whatever you were carrying.

n s e w up down - walk
look, inventory - look around, see what you carry
say hello - talk to everyone in the room
follow Name - travel with another player
who - who is playing
quit - leave

On a RETRO-PORT gateway, Mork is [M] in the Telnet menu.
